Overview

Anping wire mesh goes back to the Hongzhi era of the Ming dynasty, when local weavers first made silk gauze — 500 years without a break. From hand looms in every courtyard to today’s smart weaving workshops, one wire has been woven here for five centuries.

Anping today has more than 15,000 wire-mesh enterprises, over 100,000 people working in the trade and more than 50,000 weaving machines, forming a full chain from wire drawing and weaving to deep processing and export, with annual output above ¥80B.

Products span six families — stainless steel mesh, fence mesh, gabion mesh, screen mesh, filter mesh and steel grating — in over a thousand specifications, from filtration systems in aerospace projects to fencing at the edge of a field.

Anping is among China’s major producers and exporters of wire mesh, selling to more than 60 countries and regions — a genuine global wire-mesh trading hub. Factories line both sides of Zhenggang Road; one kilometre covers the whole chain.

In Anping the margin on mesh was once competed down to fractions of a cent, even as quality reached aerospace-filtration standards. Ending that race means this rigour finally sells for what it is worth.
